Swimming Lessons!

Annika had her very first swimming lessons last night! She loves the water already, but this is her first official class... There were 9 babies in her "Water Babies" class. The goals of the class are to teach them to jump in; to climb out of the water by themselves; teach them to float on their back; teach them what to do when they get water in their eyes, ears, nose & mouth (Yes that means we dunk them- with warning); and to prepare them for the 3 year old class where they will be in the water without a parent, just the teacher. Beginnings of water safety! Annie's class of 9 water babies.

Jenna watching the class, wondering when she can go too...

Singing "Twinkle Twinkle" which is supposed to teach her (eventually) how to float on her back.
Getting ready to dunk again- Look at the little baby behind us that is under! It was kinda scary for me at first- we have never put her under the water on purpose. Here she goes too!

She's under!!! I say, "We're going to go under the water, ready?, 1-2-3, go!"

And she's safe! She is supposed to have that little fish to distract her from the trauma. It is good that she is learning what to do when you get water in your face- We never thought about teaching that. It is good for her to see that the whole class is doing it too. We are going to have fun! Swimming lessons are 30 minutes 2 days a week and last for 4 weeks. I am sure that we'll do them again before she is three to make sure that she is really ready. Plus, Jenna can go then too!

Smelling the flowers at home before bed. Jammies and boots after swim lessons- cute!
