Vancouver BC

We went on an impromptu 3 night get-away this week to beautiful Vancouver BC (thanks to Brett & Melyna not going on theirs). It was really nice to get away from life for a couple of days and the girls we able to have a break from us, which is just as needed as us getting a break from them. They had a great time staying 2 nights with each set of grandparents.

Here is the place we stayed- on the 20th floor (about half way up on the mid-left):

We stayed down-town and were able to walk nearly everywhere! It was great! We did drive to Stanley Island and to one of the suspension bridges. Here we are with down-town in the background (standing on Stanley Island):

We took a walking tour on Friday and the weather was sunny and cool- so nice. Our guide did a really good job and several people had no-showed so she toured us and one other young man (from Ireland), that's it! It was fun. Some of the old buildings downtown are still steam powered and heated- thus there are vents around town to let off the pressure. Here is a clock that is built on top of the vent so it steams out the top. It is not actually powered by the steam because it couldn't keep a steady enough pressure to keep accurate time.
We did a lot of walking on our own and went in a hotel lobby that was having a gingerbread house contest and this is their main display (actually made of gingerbread) nine feet high and eleven long.
